Story Idea - Only in Nightmares

Hello, there!

I've been thinking about a variety of story lines for November's writing challenge with NaNoWriMo - and then got distracted by life.

Any-hoo...

A year or two ago, I had a recurring nightmare where my ex-husband would call me and say he and his girlfriend were pregnant. He would then ask me if I wanted the baby, because both of them would rather stick pins through their eyes than be parents. Variants of this dream included me saying yes; me laughing and hanging up the phone; or me saying no and bawling my eyes out because he went and got someone else pregnant.

Seriously, could you imagine?

  • Girl meets boy
  • Girl marries boy
  • Boy asks for a divorce because he doesn't want children (doesn't mention girlfriend on side)
  • Girl gets over boy, meets and marries better, devoted-to-her boy
  • Girl and better, devoted-to-her boy have baby dreams
  • Two years later, boy asks girl if she would adopt the baby of boy and his mistress
  • Girl is unable to conceive despite multiple attempts with better, devoted-to-her boy
  • Girl is in her 40s
  • Girl has a dilemma
I think I could make a writing project out of that scenario. What do you think?

Gearing up for the 2011 NaNoWriMo

Well. Hi there!

I'm starting this blog to get myself together in time for the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) challenge for which I registered.

What is this?  In their words:

"National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing on November 1. The goal is to write a 50,000 word, (approximately 175 page) novel by 11:59:59, November 30."

In my words:

"What was I thinking?"

Ok...I kind of knew what I was thinking. I was thinking I turned 39 this year, and life is going by quickly. I've always wanted to write a book, and apparently I also like stress. So, I signed up to get the first draft out of my head and onto paper (or onto computer).

Here's the thing: It's not until November. I've got time to jot down some ideas. As part of the rules you can not start writing until the first day of November, other than an outline.

If this blog at times doesn't make any sense at any given point, just know that I'm noting ideas. You may shake your head and carry on.

I also get side-tracked by one of my passions, cooking, so random cooking posts may spring up from time to time, too.
